What is an infill house?

Infill housing is creation of additional housing on an already approved neighbourhood without significantly altering its appearance or character. Infill houses can be built on an existing lot, by dividing an existing home into multiple units, or on a new residential lot through subdivision.

It depends on the municipality where your lot is located. For example, in Nelson you can add a secondary suite within existing single family home in some residential zones. In Terrace, New West and North Vancouver, some residential zones allow adding a secondary suite. Similar examples can be found in Vancouver and Victoria as well.
