The right enclosure depends on the size and shape of the shower, the direction the door can swing and how much maintenance you are comfortable with. Frameless glass has the cleanest look and the fewest places for soap and water to collect, while semi-frameless and framed enclosures are more economical and work well in secondary bathrooms.

• Door type: hinged doors need clear floor space to open; sliding and bypass doors suit tighter bathrooms.
• Glass thickness: 10 mm tempered glass is typical for frameless enclosures, with 6 to 8 mm for framed styles.
• Hardware finish: hinges, handles and channels are matched to the shower trim and faucets.
• Protective coating: a factory-applied coating makes the glass easier to keep clear of water spots.
