Project story
A full kitchen renovation in Dunbar, Vancouver
This west-side kitchen had light maple slab cabinets, black granite countertops, a corner desk under the windows and a tall pantry wall beside the fridge. The layout worked well for the family; the finishes were what needed to change.
We kept the galley layout and replaced everything else. New cream painted shaker cabinets with black finger-pull hardware now run the length of the room, topped with Branco Delicatus granite: a grey, speckled stone that hides everyday wear. A white gloss subway tile backsplash runs up to the uppers, and a gas cooktop sits under a new stainless hood.
The sink wall has a new stainless undermount double sink below the window, with a recycling pull-out close by. Across the room, the tall pantry wall was rebuilt with panel-style doors around a stainless fridge, a built-in microwave and a wall oven. The old corner desk became a granite breakfast counter with seating, looking out through three windows.
Underfoot, we installed a 6 mm glue-down cork floor in a warm, natural tone. The kitchen was completed in 2021 and took about 3 weeks on site. We estimate it would cost $60,000–$70,000 to build today. See more of our kitchen renovations in Vancouver, or read about kitchen renovation in Dunbar.

The neighbourhood
Kitchen renovations in Dunbar
Dunbar sits on Vancouver's west side, centred on Dunbar Street and running from West 16th Avenue south to the Fraser River. Its first big wave of homes went up in the mid-1920s, and it joined the City of Vancouver in 1929 when the Municipality of Point Grey merged with the city. Today it is still mostly single-family homes on quiet, tree-lined streets.
Character family homes
Many Dunbar homes date from the 1920s onward. Their kitchens often work well in layout but need new cabinets, counters and floors, as this one did. We also handle character home renovations in Dunbar.

FAQ
Full kitchen renovation questions
Common questions from Dunbar and Vancouver homeowners planning a kitchen renovation.
How much does a full kitchen renovation cost in Dunbar?
We estimate this kitchen would cost $60,000–$70,000 to build today. It included new cabinets throughout, granite countertops, a tile backsplash, a new sink and hood, and cork flooring. Complete Vancouver kitchens commonly fall within a $40,000–$80,000+ planning range, depending on size, finishes and layout changes.
How long does a full kitchen renovation take?
This kitchen took about 3 weeks on site. Most complete kitchens take about 15 working days once construction starts, with cabinets and countertops ordered ahead so the kitchen is out of service for as little time as possible.
Is cork flooring a good choice for a kitchen?
Cork is warm and soft underfoot, which makes long stretches at the counter more comfortable. In this kitchen we installed a 6 mm glue-down cork floor. Like any wood-based floor, it should be sealed and spills wiped up promptly.
Can you renovate a kitchen without changing the layout?
Yes. This Dunbar kitchen kept its galley layout, its corner window counter and its tall pantry wall, and keeping a layout avoids relocating plumbing and gas lines, which helps keep the schedule short. This one took about 3 weeks on site. Everything else, from the cabinets to the floor, is new.
Do you renovate kitchens in older Dunbar homes?
Yes. QUAY renovates kitchens across Dunbar and the west side of Vancouver, including Point Grey, Kerrisdale and Kitsilano, planning the work around each home's layout and character.
Is the work warrantied?
Yes. Every QUAY renovation is backed by a 365-day workmanship warranty.
