Condo bathroom renovations in Vancouver
Compact bathrooms renovated with careful waterproofing, smart storage and planning that respects your strata.
Condo bathrooms need a different approach
Renovating a bathroom in a condo involves more than the room itself. Plumbing connects to shared stacks, water shut-offs may need to be booked with the building, and any leak can affect the suites below.
QUAY Construction plans condo bathroom renovations with those realities in mind, from strata approval and elevator bookings to waterproofing done properly the first time.
Back to bathroom contractors in Vancouver ↗How long does a condo bathroom renovation take?
Our standard schedule for a typical condo bathroom is about 10 working days on site, once strata approval is in place. Hidden damage behind old tile can add time, so we price and approve any change in writing before the work happens.
Strata approval
Most Vancouver stratas ask for a renovation request, proof of insurance and a WorkSafeBC clearance before work starts, and set rules on work hours, elevator bookings and deliveries. QUAY prepares the paperwork and books the building logistics.
Protection and demolition
Hallways, elevators and the suite are protected, the old finishes are removed and recycled, and the walls and floor are opened up so any water damage can be found and fixed.
Plumbing and waterproofing
Plumbing is roughed in within the existing drain locations, then a membrane system goes behind and beneath the tile in the wet areas before any tile is set.
Tile, glass and finishing
Tile, vanity, glass, paint, finish plumbing and electrical, then a final clean and walkthrough. On our recent Yaletown condo bathroom, on-site work ran about three weeks, including three extra days to replace water-damaged drywall found behind the old tile.
What a condo bathroom renovation involves
Requirements differ by building, so your strata bylaws are reviewed before the plan is finalised.
Tub-to-shower conversions
Replacing a rarely used tub with a walk-in shower.
Waterproofing
Membrane systems behind and beneath tile to protect your suite and your neighbours.
Compact vanities and storage
Wall-hung vanities, recessed cabinets and niches that free up floor space.
Plumbing within existing locations
Fixtures planned around the building drain stack to keep work practical.
Ventilation
Quiet, effective fans connected to the existing building exhaust.
Strata coordination
Approval documents, water shut-off bookings and elevator scheduling.

Water is the risk that matters most
In a multi-storey building, a failed shower can damage several homes. That is why substrate preparation and waterproofing are the most important steps in a condo bathroom.
We follow the membrane manufacturer's system and let you see the work before it is tiled over.
